Tomás Saraceno: Particular Matter(s)

Completed: February 2022
Location: New York, NY
Project Type: custom pedestals, prototyping, furniture, lighting, museum exhibition

Tomás Saraceno’s largest exhibition in the United States to date took place at the Shed between February and April of 2022. The show contained an expansive gallery collection, as well as a unique sensory experience in The Shed’s flexible performance space. Proposing a conversation between the human and non-human, Saraceno’s work discusses a number of organic, biologic, and phenomenological processes in an effort to renew our collective relationship with the earth, air, and cosmos.

Stand and Build fabricated a total of 14 custom pedestals and platforms, 13 projector housings, and 28 benches to be used across the multi-story exhibition. To ensure that the pedestals blended into the dark gallery, each one was wrapped with a thick matte black cloth. Conversely, to highlight a border around the vitrines, each platform was underlit with LED lights, casting a halo underneath the floating black plinths.
